Where does our rice come from?
Where does our rice come from...

At Caçarola, we have been bringing you the best rice for 45 years, in a process filled with wisdom and rigor, which begins in the land.
Therefore, it has to be very well taken care of...

INCORPORATE

Immediately after a harvest, the cultivated land needs to be leveled to incorporate the straw into the soil and pre-level it, eliminating the furrows left by the harvester.

SHREDDING

A few months later the soil is dry and it needs to be turned over to prepare it for sowing. This is done by harrowing twice with heavy disc harrows.

LEVELING

Meanwhile, the ground is leveled again,

FERTILIZATION

and spread fertilizer on the bottom with a TMR implement, enriching the soil with more nutrients.

COMPRESS

Treatment is applied to control weeds and a few days later, it is time to flood the plantation beds.
After a few weeks the soil is ready and it is time for SOWING.
An aircraft is loaded with seeds and flies over the flooded beds.  The seeds are released with precision, spreading evenly across the land.
One week after sowing, the water is temporarily removed from the beds to perform the DRY BREAK that allows the rice to take root, eliminating pests and slime.
After the plant grows, the water is removed again to proceed with treatment with a tractor attached to a sprayer. This operation is followed by new FERTILIZATION.
The beds are flooded again for 5 days with the maximum water level, to suffocate the weeds.
Even with a low water level, the rice grows every day. It is the fruit of a green plant that, when it becomes more ripe, adopts a golden color.
The big day of the HARVEST [m1] has arrived with the harvester, which cuts the rice plant and then separates the grains. The golden grains are saved and the "leftovers” are dropped back into the soil.
The rice in the husk, still moist, is dried to 13 degrees and, once stabilized, is transported to the silos.

CLEANING

At the factory, impurities are separated (rice straw, leaves, husk, immature grains, and even stones).

PEELING

Then the hullers - which replaced the traditional mills - separate and remove the husk from the grain. This process results in brown rice.

WHITENING and POLISHING

At this stage, an abrasive stone removes the outer film from the grains, resulting in whiter, brighter rice.

SELECTION

To ensure that only the best rice reaches you, the optical selector analyses the colour of the grains at high speed and removes imperfect grains from the process.

Nothing is wasted during this entire process: the husks, flour and broken grains – by-products of the different stages – are used by other sectors of activity.

PACKAGING

Once the best rice has been selected, it is time to package it and deliver it to your home.

Caçarola offers a huge variety of rice, because Caçarola rice is everyday rice and every day is rice day.
